Any UK business can apply for a free Google local business listing but it has become even more significant in the last couple of years.
In the past you could easily create a listing on Google Maps and be ranking without a website.
However, with over 20% of all searches being local Google has taken notice.
And that’s plenty of people.
With Google now over the 2 billion searches daily (source: BBC News) this means there are 400 million local searches being carried out daily!
Another trend is that sometime in 2013 there will be more mobile devices than desktops.
You can see that even in today’s market local search continues to grow in importance and it is up to you to grab the lions share today.
Think about any normal situation.
You’re in the city centre and on the spur of the moment decide you would love a Chinese meal. You are a stranger in town but Google knows where you are through the GPS in your mobile.
You do a search and Google brings back a set of local results.
But wait … 3 of these local restaurants are running offers so Google shows these as a priority listing.
You like the look of one and there is a button on their mobile website that will automatically ring the reservation desk.
Once booked you click on another button on the mobile website and Google presents you with a map on how to get there.
The technology to do this is already available.
As a local business owner with a business marketing strategy you need to understand that you have to give your potential customers what they want now.
Google loves local businesses and has gone out of its way since 2010 to continue improving the local search results.
It was only a couple of years ago that you had to use the town or city in the search to get the correct results.
Today, with or without you entering the town or city Google will present you with relevant results.
Every computer has an IP address so Google can now deliver the most appropriate results based on your computer’s IP address.
As everything moves faster towards local search online your Google local business listing is no longer an option … it’s a MUST.
These days, lots of folks who are interested to get an online business going are beginning with PTCs — Pay to Click websites. I, myself, started in that manner. I will discuss what a PTC website is for folks who don’t know.
The fact is, virtually all pay to click programs are nothing but frauds. Essentially, Pay-to-Click programs are simply pyramid schemes. Why “pyramid”? This is because if you aren’t among the first few into the pyramid scheme, your odds of really making any money at all are extremely low, approaching zero. Look at it this way: If ten different people put in ten bucks, that’s a total of $100. The scheme starter may pay out fifteen bucks to four of his down line, leaving the rest of the folks out in the cold.
